Messages XR Enterprise allows you and your team to push and archive urgent updates, announcements, or reminders into one central area on your client-facing website.
This article will show you how to connect Messages XR Enterprise to your website using RSS, so that every message sent to the Feeds channel appears instantly on your site in a clean, easy-to-read format.
This article exists to provide District Administrators, School Administrators, and Principals with everything they need to understand how to manage Messages XR Enterprise on behalf of their teachers and staff.
Connecting Messages XR Enterprise to your website using this option allows you to:
- deliver messages in real time to your public-facing site.
- simplify communication across platforms.
- eliminate manual updates by writing the message once in Messages XR Enterprise and configuring it so that the message appears automatically on your website.
- display content in a clean format without headers or footers, ideal for embedding or linking from other pages.
Step 1: Create a space in Composer for most recent messages
Follow these steps to create a standalone page that pulls content from messaging created in Messages XR Enterprise via RSS and places it onto this new page:
- Create a new page in Composer. Give your new page a Title, such as "Live updates” or “Important Announcements”.
- In the Page layout and appearance menu, disable the Header and Footer on this new page by selecting None in the dropdown. This will keep the layout clean.
- On your new page, go into Compose mode, open up the Element library > Module tab and scroll down to insert the RSS Feeds element onto your blank page.
- After you complete Step 2, you'll return back to this Composer page's RSS Feeds element to complete the connection process.
Step 2: Obtain your RSS details in Messages XR Enterprise
Now you are ready to copy your RSS Feeds information so that you can paste it in the next step to complete the connection to your Composer website.
Here's how to access your RSS details in your Messages XR Enterprise platform.
- Navigate to Settings > Organization config tab
- Select the organization from which your message(s) leading to the RSS Feeds element will be sent. Once open, scroll down and select Delivery Options for that selected organization.
- Inside the Delivery options window, find and copy the RSS Subscription URL into your clipboard.
Important Note
Although embedding the RSS widget that you see just below the RSS Subscription URL might seem convenient, using the RSS Subscription URL is the preferred method. It gives you far more control and customization through the Feeds element without needing to edit HTML code to make adjustments.
Step 3: Connect the RSS details back to your Composer page
Now you will navigate to the Composer page you built in Step 1, armed with your new RSS information.
-
When you're back in Composer, open up your RSS Feeds element settings by clicking the settings gear.
- Now you can make adjustments to customize the way your messages appear to your site visitors on this new composer page.
- For a deeper dive into the RSS Feeds element settings and options available to you, check out the article in Finalsite's CMS Knowledge Base, "RSS Feeds module element".
Step 4: Include the RSS channel anytime you send out messaging
Once you click Save, any message sent to the Feeds channel in MXRE will automatically appear on your website page. Learn how this works in the article, "Create and send a message" in the section, "Send to Feeds."
Now your site visitors can stay even more engaged by seeing updates to this new page.
Best Practices
