Manage your SMS/text message subscriptions

This article covers how to manage SMS and text message subscriptions in Messages XR Enterprise, including how to identify the number messages come from and how to opt in or out.

  • What number will messages come from? It depends on the district's setup. Outreach messages come from either a 10-digit number unique to the district or short code 97178. Emergency messages come from a dedicated number assigned to the district (10DLC) or short code 53291. Contact the school or district to confirm the specific numbers.
  • How do I opt out? Reply STOP to the number messages came from. A confirmation message will arrive once unsubscribed.
  • How do I opt back in? Text START to the number messages came from. A confirmation message will arrive once resubscribed.

Understand the message number

Messages from a district or school come from different numbers depending on the district's setup. The district's website or help center is the best place to find the specific numbers in use.

Message type Number (10DLC districts) Number (short code districts)
Outreach messages A 10-digit number unique to the district, with the district's local area code 97178
Emergency messages A 10-digit number unique to the district, with the district's local area code 53291

Check the district or school website, or contact the school directly. Many districts publish their SMS numbers in a family communications or notifications page.


Opt in to SMS messages

Reply directly to any message received, or text to the district's number if known. Use any of the following keywords:

  • START
  • GO
  • SUBSCRIBE
  • RESUME
  • JOIN
  • UNBLOCK

A confirmation message will arrive once subscribed. Message and data rates may apply.

Check the district or school website, or contact the school directly. Districts on short code use 97178 for outreach and 53291 for emergencies. Districts on 10DLC have unique numbers — many publish them on their website.


Opt out of SMS messages

Reply directly to any message received, or text to the district's number if known. Use any of the following keywords:

  • STOP
  • UNSUBSCRIBE
  • CANCEL
  • QUIT
  • BLOCK

A confirmation message will arrive once unsubscribed.
