Manage your SMS/text message subscriptions

This article helps parents, guardians, and students manage their SMS subscriptions from Messages XR Enterprise, including which codes messages come from and how to opt in or out using standard text keywords.

  • What SMS codes will messages from my school come from? Outreach messages come from either an assigned 10-digit long code or the short code 97178; emergency messages always come from short code 53291.
  • Opting in to receive SMS messages from your school? Text one of the following keywords to your school's number: START, GO, SUBSCRIBE, RESUME, JOIN, or UNBLOCK.
  • Opting out of SMS messages from your school? Text one of the following keywords: STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, QUIT, or BLOCK. You will receive a confirmation once unsubscribed.

Understand the message number

Messages from a district or school come from different numbers depending on the district's setup. The district's website or help center is the best place to find the specific numbers in use.

Outreach messages A 10-digit number unique to the district, with the district's local area code 97178
Emergency messages A 10-digit number unique to the district, with the district's local area code 53291

Opt in to SMS messages

Reply directly to any message received, or text to the district's number if known. Use any of the following keywords:

  • START
  • GO
  • SUBSCRIBE
  • RESUME
  • JOIN
  • UNBLOCK

A confirmation message will arrive once subscribed. Message and data rates may apply.

Check the district or school website, or contact the school directly. Districts on short code use 97178 for outreach and 53291 for emergencies. Districts on 10DLC have unique numbers — many publish them on their website.


Opt out of SMS messages

Reply directly to any message received, or text to the district's number if known. Use any of the following keywords:

  • UNSUBSCRIBE
  • CANCEL
  • QUIT
  • BLOCK
